Not to be a hardass myself because I agree that musical artists have a right to determine how their music is distributed and how they should be remunerated for that (and large labels often stack the deck against a fair split), but...

don't you have a very (enviably) large stack of JBC boots that you list on the site and that you regularly trade? Perhaps this part of the site has been taken down since you discussed this with Pat but if not I don't see much difference between trading live shows and duping CDs when in both instances it is not done in conjunction with the artist (or the label) in a way that fairly compensates them.

I've regularly traded boots on this list myself so I'm not exactly 'holier than thou' but I have also bought virtually every JBC CD/album I can get my hands on and would willingly contribute to a tape trading fund with the proceeds going to Pat.
